Can Town burst the Premier title race wide open?

By Ian Townsend

Enfield Town welcome leaders Hornchurch tonight, with both sides in need of three points. Here’s our preview- with highlights of their last meeting

Leaders Hornchurch have seen their lead at the top reduced to only goal difference, and tonight play their game in hand over the chasing pack as they head to fifth place Enfield Town.

The Urchins are suddenly looking vulnerable. They needed a last minute Charlie Stimson goal to escape Haringey Borough with a point ten days ago, and on Saturday they gave up a two goal lead to lose against sixteenth place Margate, a side who had lost their previous three games before travelling to Bridge Avenue. That slump has allowed Bishop’s Stortford to move level on points, with Canvey Island and Aveley only two points further back.

The hosting Towners are seven points behind the Urchins in fifth place, but more important for the side from the QEII Stadium is that fact that they are only three points ahead of Cray Wanderers and Lewes in that chase for a play off place. A win tonight would give them an important advantage as we head towards the last month of the campaign.

The last time the two sides met, way back in August, the Urchins came back from one-nil and two-one down to record a three-two victory. Warm up for tonight’s match by watching the highlights, below.

Town won both encounters between the sides last season.
