Carnival comes to Casuals

King George's Field gets a Brazilian makeover

Corinthian-Casuals played host to Vai Tolworth – a Brazilian festival embracing the links between the Football Club and South America.

On Sunday afternoon, performers from all over London gathered to entertain hundreds in attendance which included those from the Mayor’s office and local Councillors. Organised by the Community Brain, a local charity, Samba dancers, musicians, face painters and acrobats made up the entertainment enjoyed by scores of locals.

Charles Miller - a former Corinthian player- was credited with introducing football into Brazil, with two balls given to him by the club. Also, in 1910, a touring side inspired five locals to create their own side in their honour - which became Corinthians Paulista, now the largest football club in Brazil and twice FIFA World Club Champions.

A carnival procession was the highlight with local schools taking part in the colourful procession. Organiser Robin Hutchinson MBE is hopeful that this is the start of an annual festival which will only grow in size.
