Chairman hails second chance

By David Watters

Wroxham chairman Kevin Attree is hailing his Ryman North club's reprieve from relegation.

The Yachtsmen's escape from dropping into Step 5 was confirmed on Thursday when the 72 clubs set to compete in the Ryman's Premier, North and South divisions were revealed following the annual end of season reshuffle at Steps 1-4 by the Football Association’s Leagues Committee at Wembley.

After the promotion of Norfolk rivals Norwich United, Attree and manager Damian Hilton are also looking forward to another local derby and better luck next season, on and off the pitch, after their third from bottom finish in April.

Attree told the club's fans: “The reprieve is much appreciated and is really good news. It was disappointing to finish where we did in the league but we move forward both on and off the pitch with the support of sponsors and local businesses.

“I am certain that next season will bring with it better and more consistent performances led by Damian Hilton and therefore a much better finishing position.

"We are greatly looking forward to competing with Dereham Town and new Ryman League members Norwich United in local derbies next season. We also urge local businesses to become involved, support the club and increase our supporter base further which will add to performances on the pitch.”

Wroxham boss Hilton added: “We always knew there was a chance that only two teams would go down from the Ryman League. Until you get confirmation then it leaves things a little up in the air, but it’s great news for everyone involved with the club.

"We all know we have under-achieved last season but myself and the players are all determined to put things right cRepome August."
