Chairman introducing his successor

By David Watters

Incoming Chatham Town chairman Kevin Hake will meet the club's fans for the first time on Saturday night after their final home game of the 2016-17 Ryman South season.

Current chairman Jeff Talbot, pictured, is set to introduce his successor to supporters at the club's presentation night after their final home game of the campaign against Lewes before the former Chats player officially takes the reins on Monday.

Along with announcing a new chairman on Friday, officials at The Sports Ground also named Andy Bonneywell as their new club and company secretary. He takes over from Henry Longhurst with long-serving financial director Peter Enright also stepping aside this summer as part of a major shake-up in the wake of Talbot's decision to end a 20-year association with the club, including around a decade as chairman, to relocate to the south coast.

Former Sheppey boss Hake, whose father is a former Chatham manager, had been in charge of the Ryman South club's groundshare tenants this season, Southern Counties East Division One side Gravesham.

Talbot told fans on Friday that he believes the future of the club is bright with his successor having the maximum amount of time to get his feet under the table before the 2017-18 season kicks off in August.

Backing Hake in a club statement, he said: "As you know I gave notice before the start of the season that this would be my last as Chairman of CTFC. To enable a seamless transition, the club's major shareholders and I have been working to find a new chairman to lead the club on the next stage of its journey.

"Kevin has presented his outline plans for CTFC which look to build and open up exciting new opportunities for the club. Many of you will know Kevin as an ex-CTFC player, his father as a previous CTFC manager and his brother also as a previous first team player. This appointment thus supports our approach to rebuild CTFC with stronger local ties."
