Chalfont in mourning

Saints mourn the passing of John Carroll

Chalfont St Peter yesterday paid their condolences to committee member and former club secretary John Carroll, who passed away suddenly on Thursday.

In a statement, the club chairman Dennis Mair gave a very personal tribute.

'During a lifetime you meet people from all walks of life with the hope and anticipation of being able to call them a friend. Sadly, all too often those hopes end in disappointment for any number of reasons. I can say that John fulfilled everything I could ever have wished for. He was a thoroughly decent, honest, fair minded, humorous and, above all, loyal friend. In a world where these qualities can be in short supply, the loss of John will leave a huge void in my life.
I end this tribute to him by simply thanking him for not just making me smile but above all for his unconditional friendship.

RIP my good friend.'

The club added:

'John's passing will come as a shock not only to other club committee members from the Spartan, Southern, Combined Counties and Isthmian Leagues, but also to the numerous players who have represented Chalfont St Peter AFC over the years. John will be remembered with great warmth and affection by all who knew him, and on their behalf we send deepest condolences to his family.'

All at the Isthmian League would like to add our condolences, and send our love and sympathy to John's family and friends.
