Champion for the Rooks

National league defender Tom moves to the Pan- and takes the armband

Lewes have announced the signing of centre back Tom Champion, who also takes the captains armband for the forthcoming season.

Tom was a Watford youth who first signed professionally with Barnet, before becoming a mainstay of the Bishop's Stortford side for almost five years. He moved to Braintree Town, and then on to Dartford, winning promotion to the National League.

His time as a Dart came to an end with a move to Cambridge United, playing in the National league promotion winning side and then in League Two, before a subsequent transfer back to Barnet and loan move to Lincoln City which didn't work out. Boreham Wood came calling, and he was a big part of their success as they established themselves in the National League Premier and went on several notable cup runs.

He spent last season with Woking, playing a full part in their National league campaign, so is a major capture for the Rooks, who have convinced him to step down two levels.

Lewis Carey, Tom Carlse, Will Salmon, Mitchell Nelson and Kenny Yao have been announced as returning from last season.
