Champions are investing in future

Brightlingsea Regent are getting ready to splash out more than £20,000 on improving their home for the Ryman League's top flight.

Promoted in April as Ryman North champions, officials at North Road have earmarked £22,000 on installing new seating, terracing and other improvements to ensure manager James Webster can make their stay in the Ryman League's top flight permanent.

The R's have until March 31 next year to meet the Football Association's ground-grading standards for Step 3, a deadline chairman Terry Doherty is confident of meeting with much of the work already underway or planned out to ensure their success story can continue.

With the Essex club preparing to play at the highest level in their history, Doherty told eadt.co.uk: “We are already doing some work on some extra covered terracing, that work started last season and was being undertaken regardless of whether we were promoted or not.

“Those two extra areas should house around 75 spectators in each and we have finished the new turnstile block on the far side of the ground. To stay in the Premier Division, the league also requires us to put in another 100 covered seats and we have until March 31 to complete that job. That will cost us £22,000 and we are already looking into getting that done.”
