Champions send thanks for support

By David Watters

Ryman North champions AFC Sudbury have thanked all the well-wishers who bombarded the Suffolk club with congratulations at the weekend after they clinched the title and promotion.

Jamie Godbold's side took the title with three games to spare with a 1-0 win at Tilbury on Saturday and delighted officials at the King's Marsh Stadium say they've been blown away by the reaction.

In a statement on the club's website a spokesman said: "Social media has been full of congratulations to the club, the team, the management and to individual players. All have been read, digested and we would like to thank everyone that has send any sort of message. We really appreciate each and everyone of them."

A first half goal at Chadfields from leading scorer Craig Parker was enough to see off The Dockers and leave Gobold a happy manager this week.

Goldbold, who took charge in January 2015, told the www.greenun24.co.uk on Tuesday: “It’s been worth the wait and it’s a big weight off our shoulders to at last get over the line.

“We have had a terrific season, no-one can say otherwise but to win the title so quickly as we have is a bit of a surprise for me. I’m so glad for the players and the fans and for all the good people who do so much at this club."
