Charitable Chips ensure regular giant-killings!

If Chipstead fans ever lose patience waiting to see their Ryman League side go on a headline grabbing FA Cup run to meet the likes of Manchester United a holiday in Zambia might help.

Thanks to the Ryman South club’s treasurer Paula Titheradge, they’ll already find quite a few local clubs running out in their green ad white colours and beating Reds-clad opponents, the strip of choice among the football-mad youngsters in villages in and around the capital Lusaka, pictured.

The Chips official heard all about Vision Aid Overseas, a charity working in developing countries while on a business trip. With the help of the High Road club, she recently returned from delivering two seasons' worth of kit and is now planning a second trip later this year to take out even more Chips strips when the season ends.

In an interview with the club’s local paper, The Surrey Mirror last week, she explained: "I met a man who has set up a sports academy just outside the Zambian capital. They help educate but also teach people about the dangers of things like Aids, because that's a problem out there.

"I spoke to Chipstead when I got back and they agreed it would be nice to donate our old football kits. They know they have got the kit from England and love football out there. Our kits mean they know they will look like a proper team.

She added: "When we gave the kit they won their game that weekend and they said it was because the kit gave them a boost. It's just something we can do to show them people care about them, because quite a lot of them are orphans."
