Charity call for crowd funders!

Folkestone Invicta chairman Jim Pellatt is urging fans to help the Ryman South leaders raise as much money as possible for research into Motor Neurone Disease when they hold their second free family day.

After the success of a previous family day in April when they beat Chipstead, Pellatt echoed an appeal by manager Neil Cugley to fans last month to turn out in force again for MND charities when they host Peacehaven & Telscombe at the Fullicks Stadium on Saturday 21 November.

Ahead of hosting Guernsey in a 1pm kick off in Ryman South on Saturday, Pellatt said: "It is a charity close to the club's heart as one of our youth team coaches died at an early age from the disease and someone close to the club is currently suffering from it.

"All the fans who are able to attend will be very welcome and it should be a great day for a very worthy cause with the attractions we're laying on for younger supporters."

Cugley is the driving force behind the initiative to offer free entry and instead invite fans to make a donation towards research into MND after sadly seeing its effects at first hand through his wife Pauline's best friend and Mark Stanton, one of his former players when he was at Ashford who lost a four year battle against the disease two years ago at the age of 44.

Speaking in October when the event was announced, the Invicta boss said: "It’s a cause very close to my heart and to my wife Pauline as well. Mark Stanton, who played for me at Ashford Town lost a fairly long, brave battle with the disease when he sadly passed away just over two years ago, and my wife Pauline’s best friend Carol March is suffering from it now.

“Mark was a great guy, and, like Carol, one of the nicest people you could ever know. When it happens to people like that you realise just how unkind life can sometimes be.”

After recording an attendance of 1,052 last time out that included plenty of younger fans, a number of the attractions for children are being laid on again including a bouncy castle and face-painting and Cugley hopes give the gate another big boost.

He added: “It would be great if we can get close or even beat the crowd we had back in April, and let’s hope that we can - it is all for such a brilliant cause.”
