Charity Shield proceeds split

PROCEEDS of last month's Isthmian Charity Shield game, in which Needham Market beat Bury Town on penalties, have been divided between two causes with particular meaning to the league.

One is the Motor Neurone Disease Association in memory of Del Deanus, who died on November 14 after a five-year battle with the disease.

A former Tottenham Hotspur junior, he teamed up with Steve Newing in managing three Ryman League clubs: Leyton, Edgware Town and Enfield Town.

The advancing effects of his illness forced him to step down from his role at Enfield in the 2010-11 season.

The other charity to benefit is Level Playing Field, which campaigns for improved facilities for disabled fans. League Chairman Alan Turvey is one of its trustees.

The League would like to thank the competing clubs for refusing to claim any expenses for the match, thus maximising the amount of money available for the charities.
