Chertsey Town start manager search

Manager Maclaren departs

Chertsey Town last night announced the departure of manager Kevin Maclaren. In a statement, they explained that his decision to depart is mainly due to personal factors.

Kevin became Curfews boss in the summer of 2019, shortly after lifting the FA Vase as a player. He replaced Dave Anderson, who stepped down after that Wembley win- achieving promotion the same season.

He was also a long serving player with Hendon.

The club statement is reproduced in full below:

'Chertsey Town announce that player manager Kevin Maclaren has stepped down from the post with immediate effect.

A meeting took place with the club’s Chairman Mark Turner and Secretary Chris Gay where the offer of resignation was made and reluctantly accepted. The prime reason was the effect on his personal life, and that of the club, since his family home was relocated to Lancashire.

Kevin has been one of the club’s foremost servants. He had always been honest and effective as a player and manager since joining in 2017 and achieved great things for the club. His total commitment to the cause has not always been his best friend, but we always acknowledged his sincere desire to produce the best for everyone connected with us.

The club is grateful for the many positive aspects of his involvement and wishes him the best for the future.

The search is now on for a new manager so that the quest for promotion can press on without undue interruption.'
