Christmas parting at basement side

Development team manager Adam Roots will be holding the fort at Godalming Town over the festive period after Dean Thomas left the Ryman South's basement club on Friday.

Roots was asked to take the reins until further notice after the G's parted company with Thomas, pictured, by mutual consent.

A club spokesman said: "Godalming Town would like to announce that with immediate effect and under mutual agreement Dean Thomas has been released from his contract as first team manager. Development team manager Adam Roots will take over management of the first team until further notice."

Appointed in October as the successor to Andy Hunt, former Guldford City boss Thomas guided the club to a win and two draws before the end of the month after losing his first game in charge, a 3-4 reverse at the hands of Whyteleafe at Weycourt.

After a run of five successive defeats in November and just one win among three more losses in December, the G's are currently 10 points off the safety mark. Roots will take charge of his first fixture in Ryman South at Horsham on Boxing Day.
