Hanworth Villa announce the sad passing of club stalwart, volunteer and stadium announcer Dave Townsend

Hanworth Villa have been in touch to advise us of the loss of Dave Townsend, who was something of a club legend.

The club made the following statement:

'Hanworth Villa announce the sad passing of Dave Townsend on Good Friday, after a nine month battle against the big C.

Dave fought the illness with great strength but as we all know it's one struggle that's difficult to win. Dave, affectionately known as ”Old Rosie” for his fondness of the cider, was a valued member of the Hanworth Villa family and was always on hand to help physically or through his advice on numerous subjects. Dave was our stadium announcer for several years, and was legendary for the way he tackled the increasing number of complicated names in team line ups- much to the amusement of the Villa faithful and traveling fans.

Dave was always the first to volunteer his services pre season as we got the ground ready for the new campaign. His specialty was painting, be it the walls, floors or doors. His handy work lives on at least until the end of this season, and can be seen on some of the white doors that carry a strange grey floor paint motif.

Dave will be missed, and we intend to celebrate his life this coming Saturday when we entertain champions elect Chertsey Town. We will have a commemorative program and celebrations before and after the game- which we hope will be a victory to extend the title race for another few games, It’s the least Dave deserves.'

Rest in peace Dave. Love and sympathy to family, friends, and all at Villa.
