Dockers look to extend their lead

By Ian Townsend

We've a number of North Division sides in Trophy action, but what we have left looks enthralling- particularly the arrival of Soham Town Rangers at Chadfields.

First plays fourth in our top North Division game of the day as Tilbury and Soham Town Rangers both look to get back to winning ways. The Dockers lost at nearest rivals Maldon and Tiptree in midweek, whilst at the same time Rangers were falling to defeat against AFC Sudbury. Three points separate them at kick off, and a point will ensure that the Dockers stay top- whilst three for Rangers could see them replace their hosts.

The Jammers are in Trophy action, so third place Histon also have a chance to move upwards- or even go top, depending on the Tilbury result- if they can win at Hullbridge Sports. Sports have dropped down to fifteenth after losing their last three, and have brought back Michael Agboola to strengthen their backline; whilst Histon saw their three match unbeaten run fail to become four as Romford took three points in midweek.

Bury Town are seven points behind the leaders as they kick off at home to Romford, but have played an incredible five games fewer due to their cup exploits. Town have two wins from their two matches so far, and put their unbeaten record to the test as Romford arrive at Ram Meadow, the visitors, in thirteenth place, lifted by that win at Soham.

Only goal difference separates Cambridge City and Canvey Island in seventeenth and fourteenth places as they kick off, but both have played fewer matches than the sides around them due to cup matches and postponements. The Gulls, along with Brentwood Town, are our North Division draw specialists, with three draws out of five, whilst City don’t have a draw at all. A win for either could see them climb as high as sixth.

Finally, AFC Sudbury got back to winning ways at Soham in midweek, a result which took them to three matches unbeaten. They host Witham Town, who haven’t had three matches unbeaten in total this season, and indeed have only avoided defeat once, a win over Romford four games ago. Town were narrowly defeated in midweek and really need to start picking up points f they are to climb away from the bottom.

Where next?

Can the Abbotts get back to winning ways? Only one of our South Central top six is in action, so Waltham Abbey could extend their lead. But we've no shortage of excitement. Here's our preview.
