Dowson: Midweek win best yet

Hampton & Richmond Borough manager Alan Dowson reckons he saw his side's best performance since he took over on Tuesday night when they thumped Merstham 6-1 in the Ryman League's top flight.

The rout followed last weekend's 5-0 win over Hendon at the Beveree and Dowson, pictured, believes his side can add to their eleven goals and six points in their next Ryman Premier outing at Needham Market on Saturday.

On Friday he told the club's website: “It was a very complete performance, but we have to keep our feet on the ground. That’s as good as it’s been since I turned up here over a year ago, I was very pleased with how the boys played.

"We were very good to watch and we’re scoring great goals. We can’t get too excited though. Especially now as we’re in sight of the top five.

"What I liked most was the reaction when we let in the goal on Tuesday. We had won the game but the players were angry at letting one in. That’s a good sign, they want thing to be perfect - I’m not sure we’ve had that attitude before.

“The squad is really competitive now, we have some great players not involved in the starting side and that’s another sign things are heading in the right direction."

He added: “The goal ratio is going up and we want that to continue for the next few matches. It’s time for focus and work even harder if we can, not to be living on what we’ve done in the last few days.”
