Isthmian Fantasy Five-a-Side: Drew Kendall

By Ian Townsend

Bury Town fan Drew has- rather unsurprisingly- produced a side which is generally blue- with a touch of green

We asked you to pick your Fantasy Five-a-side team from players you had watched play in our League. Here's Drew with his favourites:

Goalkeeper: Luis Tibbles (Bury Town)

A top class keeper, no surprise he's now playing at step 3 with the saves he makes. The kind of keeper that would be a first choice at pretty much any team at step 3-4 to be honest. I could've picked Bury's Neil O'Sullivan but Tibbles has to get the nod here!

Defender/Midfielder: John Kennedy (Bury Town)

Yes technically a midfielder, but considering the fact he loves a tackle and is a warrior in the middle of the pitch I can't see him not doing a good in defence in this team, you just can't leave an experienced player like him out, especially when I've gone for quite the attacking side to say the least. I considered former Bury defender Kyran Clements, but went for a more experienced tough-tackling player.

Midfield: Tommy Robinson (Bury Town)

An absolutely fantastic attacking midfielder, now at Mildenhall. Tommy has the pace to beat anyone at any level and arguably could easily even play at step 3. He's also known for finding the net from outside the box regularly, as well as for his outstanding free-kicks. Personally I thought it was a shame Tommy left Bury, as he is certainly a top class young player and could easily make something out of nothing. I remember one game for the first team, Tommy came off the bench and soon after ran through the opposition and nestled a beauty into the bottom corner - absolute top class.

Forward: Olly Hughes (Bury Town)

My favourite Bury player, not just a good finisher but the work rate he puts in on a regular basis for the team shows why he's the club's vice-captain. Whether he's being a menace for the opposition in the box on the end of a cross, or whether he's flying down the wing to create a chance for somebody else. His commitment is top class.

Forward: Sam Reed (Bury Town)

A Bury legend. An experienced player that can pop up and change a game at the flick of a switch. I can recall a few times I've seen him do just that for Bury - one of which saw him snatch three points for Bury late on against Aveley a few years ago.

Substitute: Christian Assombalonga (Waltham Abbey)

I went for Assombalonga because he's one of those players who visited Ram Meadow and really stood out. It's no surprise he's a relation of the professional Assombalonga, this guy was deadly when I watched him play Bury with Waltham Abbey. I recall Bury being 3-1 up at half-time in the 2015/16 season; I believe he won the North Division Golden Boot during that campaign and he showed exactly why. He definitely changed the game as Abbey won an absolute bonkers contest 4-3, one of the best games I've watched (if you're talking from a neutral aspect rather than the Bury fan perspective).

Right, your turn! Who would be in your Isthmian Fantasy Five-a-side team? Remember, you must have a goalkeeper and at least one defender, one midfielder and one forward, and you can have one substitute as well. They don't need to be from the side you watch, but it's ok if that's what you decide. Email your picks to Ian.
