It seems such a long time since we last told you about signings at Aveley, doesn't it? Actually, it seems to be about twenty minutes, and it's happening so often that every time we turn on the Isthmian computer the predictive text begins to write the word Aveley before we even get the chance to take a slug of coffee. So here we go again, caffeine-free.
Since we last (virtually) visited Parkside, Aveley boss Keith Rowland has confirmed that three more of last season's squad are staying on for another crack at promotion, and perhaps at the FA Trophy. The latest trio are midfielder James Goode, midfielder Connor Witherspoon, and goalkeeper James Scammell.
James the midfielder returned to his usual stamping ground last October. He played just along the road from the Millers at Thurrock, before following his then manager Mark Stimson first to Waltham Abbey and then to Hornchurch. He made sixteen appearances before last season crashed to an early end.
Connor made thirty six appearances, and has been an almost ever-present in that Millers midfield for thirty years. He was a massive part of Brightlingsea Regent's North Division title wining side of 2016-17, and began the first Premier Division campaign at the Taydal before heading to Parkside. He previously played for Hornchurch, Enfield Town and East Thurrock United.
James the goalkeeper previously played for Romford and Woodford Town. He made two appearances last season, and ended it unbeaten, as he was part of the side which drew with Canvey Island at the seaside just before Christmas and the side which walloped Grays Athletic 'away' from home on Boxing Day.
