Pitching In Isthmian Supporters Predictions 2020-21: Kingstonian

Ollie takes us to the Red and White half of the Royal Borough of Kingston

We asked supporters of our Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

We’re in the Pitching In Isthmian Premier, and we’re off to visit one of the title favourites. Ollie Underwood is your Kingstonian representative.

1. How do you feel about the return of football?

I’m excited but cautious. It’s strange times and it’s good that fans are allowed in even if it’s only 15% then 30% capacity- hopefully it can go up more when it’s safe too.

2. The world has changed enormously since you were last able to watch a live football match. Will the pandemic change your approach to watching the game- will you attend as many matches as you used to, and spend as much time at the ground/in the clubhouse, etc?

It won’t change much for me, I’ll still go to lots of games. Clubs need all the help, and of course I’ll follow the rules and guidelines i.e washing hand, social distancing etc.

3. Last season had many exciting moments before its premature end. What was your favourite moment?

The FA Cup and Trophy runs. To make Second Round Proper of both competitions was memorable. I’ll never forget it. Plus seeing Ks on- and hosting- Football Focus was enjoyable as well.

4. And what was your worst moment?

Cheshunt and Hornchurch away- and Cheshunt at home.
Hornchurch away: we lost 3-0 on a warm August bank holiday and we have a poor record against them.

Cheshunt: 2 strange games, the away game we’re poor and Dan Bennett’s frustration with the ref got him is marching orders (we behind the goal missed the red card and we were confused why he sent off but found out soon after)- also the game in which Louie Theophanous scored his final goal for Ks.

The home game felt like an end of season game, nothing more to add (ironically it was our last game before the season was ended).

5. How will you do this season?

Higher than last place (10th), top 5 hopefully (1st would be nice)

6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Bowers and Horsham away, only new grounds left to do. plus, any good cup games

7. What is your favourite away ground?

Worthing Nice ground and it’s near the beach, the town isn’t that bad as well.

8. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Corinthian-Casuals and Leatherhead

Leatherhead don’t think they like us, even more after our season ground sharing there- and Casuals for obvious reasons

9. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Err, there are very few pubs around!

10. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

Rob Tolfrey- do I need to explain why? He’s a Ks legend, He’s celebrated 10 years at Ks and he’s chasing the record appearances and will hopefully break it this season.

Bobby Traynor: Another much loved by all the Ks fans, he had six successful seasons with the Kingstonian, scoring 146 goals in 250 appearances, winning three divisional golden boots and helping the club to promotion to the Premier Division during the 2008–09 season. Would have loved him to stay longer at Ks but he’ll be remembered for two iconic moments against Sutton United, the 90th minute winner at home and a stunning overhead kick in the playoffs away.

11. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

Hornchurch, Worthing, Margate, Kingstonian, Carshalton Athletic
