Supreme Trophies and Engraving - Performance of the Month, December 2019

By Ian Townsend

Here are our last Performance of the Month Awards of the decade, courtesy of those fine folk at Supreme Trophies and Engraving.

December had lots of contenders for our Performances of the Month. But after our usual heated debate we finally made our decisions- and now Supreme Trophies and Engraving can work their magic. Here’s where the trophies will be heading:

Premier Division:

Kingstonian have been magnificent of late, and when Woking came to call in the FA Trophy they probably didn’t even give their illustrious opponents a second thought. Fourth in the National League? They’d already beaten bigger this season! The Cards headed to King George’s Field, and even though they got an equaliser right before half time the K’s simply shrugged and scored two more, to win three-one.

This is the second month in a row they’ve won this award- will they make it a hat trick in January? Leamington should be afraid- indeed, they should be very afraid!

North Division:

After winning this award for two months in a row, Maldon and Tiptree were one of the contenders for a third triumph. However the other three contenders were Aveley, Aveley and Aveley, so we decided to give it to Aveley!

We had their six-one win over Grays Athletic and their six-nil win over Romford to consider, but in the end we plumped for a more slender win over opposition from a Division higher- their FA Trophy victory over Carshalton Athletic. Giant killing is what they do these days, so Hornchurch- who they play in the next round- are probably already having sleepless nights!

Congratulations to all at Parkside.

South Central Division:

Tooting & Mitcham United have been a little up and down of late, but when they’ve been good, they’ve been very good indeed- and they were superb when they travelled to fellow promotion hopefuls Chertsey Town on December 7th. The Curfews were on the receiving end of a hiding, as the Terrors hit five goals without reply- Hady Ghandour getting the first four of them!

Congratulations to all at Imperial Fields, you’ve another trophy for your cabinet.

South East Division:

Sittingbourne have had moments this season when they’ve been mightily impressive, testament to the fabulous work that has been done by manager Chris Lynch since his arrival at Woodstock Park. Well on Saturday 28th December they took ‘mightily impressive’ to a whole new level, as the Rams arrived and were slaughtered, the Brickies running out seven-nil winners.

It was only one-nil at half time, so Ramsgate fans might have watched the start of the second half thinking they still had a chance. It turned out that they might have been better going home after their half time refreshments, as what they saw in the second half should have come with an eighteen certificate- although perhaps with a U certificate for the inhabitants of Blakey’s Shed as their side were universally exceptional.

Congratulations to Brickies at home and in Denmark!

New year, new decade, new leaders? The first Saturday of a new decade- and could we end the day with new leaders in three of our four divisions? Here’s our preview of the action.
