Leatherhead have signed Haywards Heath Town's man mountain striker Melford Simpson, and gave him his debut in yesterday's home defeat against Bognor Regis Town. He started the match and played for fifty six minutes before being replaced by Misha Djmaili.
Simpson seems to have been attached to Hanbury Park by bungee rope for the last few years. He first joined them when they were vying for promotion from the Southern Combination Football League, and was instrumental in a title win which was taken from them when it was discovered that the player had inadvertently not paid his part of a team fine from a former club, and was thus technically suspended. That paperwork error saw Heath deducted points which instead promoted second place Shoreham, but they- and Simpson- were back the following year to secure promotion once more. He has left and returned twice more since then, and has made thirteen appearances this season after making a fourth Hanbury Park debut in September.
He previously played for Shoreham, in Wales for Connah's Quay Nomads, and for Fisher, Aylesbury United, Uxbridge and Hayes and Yeading United, amongst others.
