East Thurrock United announce a collection of new and returning players

East Thurrock United's new manager Paul Martin yesterday announced the initial fruits of his squad building, confirming seven- five arrivals and two returnees.

The two returning players are Danny Cossington and Ayo Olukoga. Danny came in from Romford in December last year, one of a number of players to depart the Boro after the arrival of Glenn Tamplin and the departure of Martin as Romford boss. He made fourteen appearances before the season came to an end. Ayo is another former Romford man, but he left last summer to try his hand at Premier Division football and managed thirty two appearances, and two goals.

The new players are Jonathan Nzengo, Louis Bowen, Luke Illsley, Alfie Cue and Callum Taylor.

Jonathan was part of Aveley's record-breaking season, making thirty five appearances in the Millers defence and scoring in the remarkable victory over Chelmsford City in the FA Trophy. He previously played for the Rocks, and is another with a Romford connection.

Louis is another defender, coming in from Waltham Abbey, where he made twenty nine appearances and delivered three goals, too. Louis previously played for Hertford Town, Ware, Hoddesdon Town and Hadley.

Luke was formerly a Saint, having been with Chalfont St Peter, where he made thirty one appearances last season and scored six goals. He previously played for Enfield Town, Hertford Town and Cheshunt.

Alfie had a period at Hertford Town last time out, but first came to prominence at Dartford. He left the Darts to move to Hitchin Town in January 2019, but remained there only until the end of that season as he found the travelling from his home in South London rather too much. He ended up at Hertford and managed to score seven goals in eleven appearances, some going for a midfielder. In between Hitchin and Hertford he managed a handful of matches for VCD Athletic- and will also be remembered by Leatherhead fans, as he spent some time on loan there whilst a Dart.

Callum comes in from Welwyn Garden City, after starting last season at Royston Town. He started life as a striker, before converting to full back/wing back, and also previously spent time at Grays Athletic and Witham Town.
