Margate open the changing room doors as their players discuss men's mental health issues- and encourage you to do the same
Back in 2015, Mental Health charity The Priory commissioned a survey into men's mental health. They found that 77% of respondents had suffered with anxiety/stress/depression. The majority of men claimed that their mental health was having a negative impact on their work performance, parenting ability and relationships, yet 40% said it would take thoughts of suicide or self-harm to compel them to seek professional help.
The world has moved on a little since then, we hope, but it can only move on further if we become used to having conversations about mental health- if the subject stops being a guilty secret, and we get used to asking our friends and family whether they are ok.
The players at Margate have taken this a step further, and decided to talk not only to each other about mental health issues, but to share this conversation with you, courtesy of Gate TV. Their thought-provoking video can be seen below.
Thanks to all at Margate for sharing this video, and for tackling the subject as bravely as they'd tackle an opposition forward on a Saturday afternoon.
