My First XI: Whyteleafe, Brian Davis

Brian guides us through three decades of being green.

I have been following Whyteleafe for 30 years and been press officer / match reporter for over 20 years. There are so many players I could have picked, but here is my choice:

No 1: Danny Rose. A Leafe legend, played for over 10 seasons and now the clubs goalkeeping coach.

No 2: Gary Elliott. Superb defender and a free kick specialist.

No 3: Luke Basford. Outstanding left back who also won the F A Trophy with Kingstonian.

No 4: Nigel Golley. Played for Whyteleafe and Sutton for 25 years and was in the Sutton side that famously beat Coventry in the F A Cup.

No 5: Danny Arkwright. Giant Centre half who also was a regular scorer with his head from free kicks and corners.

No 6: Ali Reeve. Tenacious midfielder and Captain. Great crowd favourite.

No 7: Ryan Gondoh. The most recent player in my team, also playing for Hampton and Richmond under dual registration.

No 8: Ian Selley. Won the Cup Winners Cup with Arsenal. He said his player of the year award would take pride of place alongside his Cup Winners Cup medal.

No 9: Roscoe DSane. Prolific scorer over recent seasons.

No 10: Mark Hynes. Another prolific scorer whose last season at Leafe was at the age of 43.

No 11: Alan Pardew Played for Leafe before and after a professional career and subsequently managed premier clubs Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.

Right, let’s have your First XI! Email your squad to Ian at townsendaround@gmail.com and you’ll see it appear here.
