Three more Hornets

By Ian Townsend

That's virtually a swarm, as Horsham add three returning players to their recent plethora of signings

Horsham have announced that three more members of last season's squad are returning for the new campaign, as the Hornets look to do even better than the sixth place they occupied when the world came crashing down around our ears.

The three signing on once more are Joe Shelley, Steve Metcalf and Kieran Lavery.

Defender Joe made thirty seven appearances last year, and even popped up with five goals. He was an enormous part of their promotion campaign in 2018-19- and made our Supporters Team of the Season for the South East Division- and of course also captained the side as they won promotion from the Southern Combination Football League. He has also played for Hastings United, Worthing United, Horsham YMCA, Pagham and East Preston.

Steve is another important part of that solid Hornets defence, with twenty eight appearances last season. A promotion winning captain at Worthing in 2016, he's been with the Hornets ever since. He also won promotion with Peacehaven and Telscombe, and also spent time at Horsham YMCA and East Preston.

Striker Kieran spent part of last year on loan at Horley Town, managing only eighteen Hornets matches- but it would undoubtedly have been more except for injury. He came to prominence at South Park, famously scoring the Sparks goal at Prenton Park against Tranmere Rovers in the FA Trophy on January 14th 2017. He went from the Sparks to Dorking Wanderers, picking up a title medal as they won the Premier Division in 2018-19.
