Trio take charge after Brown quits

Brown, pictured, stood down following a difficult start to the campaign, Wednesday night's narrow 2-1 defeat at Sussex rivals Burgess Hill triggering his departure from the Dripping Pan just days after his side suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat at home to newly-promoted Brentwood Town.

With the Rooks fourth from bottom in the Ryman's top flight with just six points from their first 11 matches and also out of the FA Cup, the trio will take charge on Saturday for the visit of mid-table Billericay Town as the club's officials launch the hunt to appoint Brown's successor.

A Rooks spokesman said: "After Wednesday night’s defeat to Burgess Hill Town, Steve Brown tendered his resignation as manager of Ryman League Premier Division club Lewes which the Board have accepted.

"Whilst results have been disappointing, the football club appreciates the hard work he has put into the role so far this season and have wished him the best of luck in his next position."

Brown, 42, was appointed interim manager in February following the departure of former manager Garry Wilson and led the club to Ryman Premier safety with five wins in their last eleven league games. The former Charlton Athletic defender was offered the job on a permanent basis in May soon after guiding the club to the Sussex Senior Cup Final.
