FA Cup preview-part three: South East Division

By Ian Townsend

This weekend our Pitching In Isthmian Premier clubs join the majority of our North, South Central and South East sides in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup. Here’s part three of our preview, focusing on our South East Division entrants.

Bracknell Town travel to Burgess Hill Town. The Hillians have yet to really get started, losing all three league matches, whilst the Robins are rather ominously beginning to confirm why they are title favourites.

Northwood host Chichester City. City were super in defeating Lancing four-nil in midweek, but that was their first league win- indeed their first league points- of the campaign, although they did defeat Winchester City four-one in the last round. Woods don’t have a league win yet, and have lost their last two- but they did defeat Burnham four-one in a last round replay.

Folkestone Invicta, of the Premier Division, travel to Corinthian, and put their unbeaten record to the test. The hosts lost their unbeaten record against Cray Valley PM last time out, and defeated Badshot Lea in the last round.

Hastings United haven’t had the start to the campaign they might have expected, but have the chance to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat at Ramsgate as they travel to Harefield United. Their hosts defeated Binfield in the last round.

Horsham travel to face South East leaders Haywards Heath Town in their second Sussex derby of the week! The Hornets took four points from six over the Bank Holiday weekend, Heath six from six, and given the hosts also defeated Lancing in the Cup to reach this stage they have a one hundred percent record in all competitions.

Hythe Town follow their mammoth win over Westfeld by welcoming Ascot United to Reachfields. Town lost to Ramsgate on Monday, whilst their visitors sit in ninth place in the Combined Counties Premier North.

Two sides in good form, Phoenix Sports and Chipstead, meet at the Mayplace Ground. Sports won their last tie seven-nil, and followed that up by taking four points from six over the Bank Holiday weekend, whilst the Chips scored three late goals to defeat Faversham Town in the last round and followed that by putting five past Chalfont St Peter and four past South Park in the subsequent two league matches.

Ramsgate follow that win over Hastings with a trip to Harrow Borough, these days of the Pitching In Southern Premier South. Borough haven’t had the best of starts to their campaign, with one win and four defeats from their opening five matches, including the last three.

Sevenoaks Town travel to Combined Counties Premier side Redhill. Oaks only took one point from six over the Bank Holiday weekend, and won both their previous rounds via a replay. The hosts are unbeaten in five, although they did draw three of those.

VCD Athletic are off to Jersey, where they take on Jersey Bulls. Vickers have lost only one match so far this season, and defeated Raynes Park Vale in the last round, but the Bulls will pose a stern test, as in their two Cup matches so far they’ve scored a staggering fourteen goals and conceded only one. This will be only their second home match this season, and they scored ten in the first one.

Whitehawk travel to Littlehampton Town on Sunday, and will be only too aware that the side in gold walloped Sittingbourne four-nil in a replay in the last round. The Hawks have also beaten the Brickies this season, but they only got one! Town have won five and lost one of their opening six SCFL matches this season.

Leatherhead have lost three in a row, and travel to take on South East Whitstable Town, who have lost all three league matches so far but did defeat Alfold five-nil in the cup on August 21st.

Three Bridges host Lancing in a League match, kick off 3PM on Saturday, with both looking for their first win of the season- although Bridges do have two points, from two draws.
