Fans dig deep for flying medics

By David Watters

Fans of Herne Bay and Ramsgate raised more than a thousand pounds for the Kent Air Ambulance when the clubs replayed their abandoned Ryman South clash.

A cheque for £1,225 is winging its way to the emergency service's charity after nearly 400 supporters turned out to see Ramsgate's 2-1 win on Tuesday night at Winch's Field.

Originally played back on Saturday 19 March, the match was abandoned at half-time after a horror clash of heads between Ramsgate's Nick Treadwell and Herne Bay's Lee Browning and designated a "pay what you want' fixture at the turnstiles as a thank-you to the flying paramedics who landed at the ground to treat the midfielders.

Treadwell, 26, was rushed to hospital in a road ambulance while Browning, 28, was airlifted. Both were later found to have suffered severe concussion but are on the mend after their CT scans came back clear.
