A titanic top two tussle!

Enfield Town went to the top of the table by defeating Wingate and Finchley in midweek, but they will have their league-leading credentials put to the test in the toughest possible way as Worthing visit Donkey Lane.

The Towners have won their last three league matches, but the Mackerel Men have done even better, coming into the game on the back of five straight victories- five matches which have seen them score fifteen goals. Ollie Pearce comes into the match on eight goals for the season, whilst the hosts have Mo Faal in his usual fabulous form, and with the same number of goals.

Deposed former leaders Kingstonian, who lost to Worthing on Wednesday, play on Sunday- when they host Cheshunt. The K’s have lost two of their last three, but were a little unlucky in midweek, coming back to level from three-one down only to concede direct from a corner. The Ambers, in tenth place, have seen their last three matches in all competitions end one-nil, and for the first of those three actually scored the one in midweek as they defeated Hornchurch.

Seventh place Margate could mathematically climb into the top five with victory at Bishop’s Stortford, but they’d need to go goal crazy for that to happen! Gate quickly recovered from their hammering at the hands of Lewes at the weekend by winning comfortably at Merstham in midweek; whilst Stortford were at the same time picking up a point against Haringey Borough. The Blues have picked up only one point from their two matches since winning the Manager of the Month award, and will want to put any curse firmly behind them- and in Jake Cass have the man for the job, the striker having picked up his ninth of the season on Tuesday night.

Haringey Borough could climb to sixth if they can pick up three points at Merstham. Borough are unbeaten in five, but have drawn the last four of those, whilst the Moatsiders were impressive in defeating Corinthian-Casuals last weekend but less so when Margate came to call in midweek. They’ll hope to pick up their first home league win since August 21st.

Hornchurch might have a new striker in their side as they host Leatherhead, who fielded six debutants as they lost to Lewes in midweek. The Urchins have rather surprisingly lost more than they have won so far this season, and haven’t managed a win in their last four matches in all competitions. The Tanners would love that record, as they are without a win since the opening day and have conceded eighteen goals in their last five league matches.

Carshalton Athletic host East Thurrock United, as two sides who are still searching for consistency give battle at Colston Avenue. The Robins have only one win from their last six matches- over Cheshunt three weeks ago; whilst the Rocks, who have struggled with injuries for most of the season, have only one win from their last four- that coming last Saturday against Hornchurch when they turned defeat into victory with two goals in the last three minutes. They lost three-nil to Potters Bar Town in midweek.

Brightlingsea Regent host Wingate and Finchley. The visiting Blues haven’t yet recorded a win in four attempts this month, but had a very impressive September and will be hoping to get back to winning ways; whilst Regent are in rather a bad slump, with only one win and eight defeats from their last nine matches. They lost five-one in Folkestone last weekend.
