Four more Hornets

By Ian Townsend

Horsham now have almost a swarm for the new season

Just under a fortnight ago Horsham confirmed that eight of last season's squad had signed on for another crack at promotion in 2020-21- and this morning they've been joined by four more.

Today's quartet are Alex Clark, Lea Dawson, Dylan Merchant and- of course- the almost ever-present Gary Charman, who started his Horsham career twenty two years ago.

Former East Thurrock United winger Alex headed to Horsham in February. He came through the ranks at Southend United, and has also played for Lowestoft Town, Harlow Town, Heybridge Swifts and up the A264 from Horsham in Three Bridges.

Lea is a former skipper of Cray Wanderers, but spent 2018-19 with Ashford United and Cray Valley PM prior to heading to Sussex last summer. He made thirty nine appearances in his first campaign with the Hornets, scoring three goals.

Defender Dylan scored the winning goal as the Hornets were promoted to the Premier Division with playoff victory over Ashford United, and managed two more in his twenty appearances during the last campaign. He previously played for Whyteleafe, South Park and Chipstead.

Gary? There's little we can say about him that you won't already know, apart from to point out that he's in his fourth spell with the club, managed three goals last season, and if he plays as many matches in 2020-21 as he managed in 2019-20 will become the clubs record appearance holder by some distance. An Isthmian legend of the highest order.
