Margate bring in Hythe defender- as player and Assistant Manager

By Ian Townsend

Coyle heads to Hartsdown Park

Margate have announced that Hythe Town defender Jamie Coyle is manager Jay Saunders new number two- and that he will keep his boots and take on a playing role alongside his managerial responsibilities.

Jamie made twenty one appearances in the heart of the Cannons defence last season- and also chipped in with a couple of goals. He moved into the South East Division after leaving his role as joint manager at Dartford, and is not short of managerial experience as prior to his time at Princes Park he was player-manager at Welling United. He hadn't actually played for quite some time prior to moving to Reachfields, but certainly didn't seem too rusty!

He started his career as a youth with Crystal Palace, and has also appeared for the likes of Dulwich Hamlet, Leatherhead, Sittingbourne and Maidstone United.

Speaking to the club website, Jay Saunders commented:

“I’m really pleased to welcome Jamie to the club as my assistant. Jamie and I have known each other for a long time and worked with each other when he was my player and coach at Maidstone.

He knows how I like to do things and how things should be done. We’re both looking forward to the challenge of next season. It was especially important to me to get the right person in to follow after Mike Sandmann and I believe with Jamie we’ve got a great addition. Jamie’s experience, leadership and drive will be extremely valuable to me and the club as whole.”
