Pitching In Isthmian League- supporters predictions 2021-22: Bognor Regis Town

We asked supporters of our Pitching In Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off. Lee Roberts is saving his voice for the big kick off, so you’ll have to read his thoughts rather than listen to them.

1. Thinking about last season- what there was of it- were there any highlights for you?

Honestly last season, if you can call it that, seems like such a long time ago. It wasn’t a brilliant few games, the FA Cup defeat at Hayes and Yeading where we lost 5-0 was particularly bad.

2. Moving on to your current squad- which players do you think will make a big impact during the 2021-22 campaign?

Craig Robson is a fantastic signing. Craig used to play for the Rocks a few years ago before moving on. He’s gained experience at Barnet playing in the National League so to have him back is brilliant.

Gavin McCallum is another huge arrival for us, he is another player that has experience at a higher level so will be vital to us this season.

3. Realistically, how do you think you’ll do this season?

I think we can achieve a play off place. We’ve been unfortunate with injuries to key players in recent times, so we have a lot of returning players. I think our squad with a couple more additions could see us challenge for the top 5.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Any, just to be able to return to watching live football is amazing. It’s what has made lockdown hard for me, not being able to go and watch football.

The derby games v Worthing are always a great occasion, so those two are the stand out games.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Lewes. Such a brilliantly unique ground. I love the Dripping Pan, probably my favourite ground to visit in non league football. The bowl-like ground is like no other I have ever been to.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Them lot down the road! Worthing.

Local bragging rights are always up for grabs in the el classicoast. Because the last two games were during the null and void season, they still haven’t won at Bognor since 1999!

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Leave enough time to have our look at our wall of ‘remembrance.’

During lockdown the club had a fundraising event raising over £50,000. One of the incentives was to buy a plaque to go on the new wall of thanks. There are names of people on the wall that we have sadly lost during the lockdown, which in my opinion is a fantastic way to remember those that have passed.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

I’ve only been watching the Rocks for a few years so I will perhaps have a much different answer to those that have watched the club for years. I’ve got to go with the skipper, Harvey Whyte. He is someone that loves the club, and will give everything to the green and white shirt. A no nonsense midfielder who has the heart of a lion.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

Worthing, Horsham, Carshalton Athletic, Bognor Regis Town, Cray Wanderers
