Pitching In Isthmian Supporters Predictions 2020-21: Worthing

By Ian Townsend

We're off to the seaside, and visiting Woodside Road. Can Worthing top the table once more? Adam Stephenson things so!

We asked supporters of our Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

We’re back in the Pitching In Premier, and visiting the favourites, Worthing. Adam Stephenson is our guide.

1. How do you feel about the return of football?

I am counting down the days. After last season’s rollercoaster I can't wait for football to be back. Another well-needed step back into normality.

2. The world has changed enormously since you were last able to watch a live football match. Will the pandemic change your approach to watching the game- will you attend as many matches as you used to, and spend as much time at the ground/in the clubhouse, etc?

I will, of course, listen any measures the club puts forward and take them seriously, but for me when it all kicks off again its business as usual. After how this pandemic has affected non-league clubs I am looking forward to supporting the club again, putting money into the club and doing my bit whilst of course adhering to all new measures. But I have no fear of returning to the ground and the clubhouse.

3. Last season had many exciting moments before its premature end. What was your favourite moment?

My favourite moment from last season was the famous double over Bognor Regis Town and ending a poor record at Nyewood Lane! The boys were excellent with two 3-0 victories!

4. And what was your worst moment?

Worst moment of the season was off the pitch and finding out the league would be null and void. It was a hard pill to swallow after a brilliant season for the club, but we start again this year with a great squad and a brilliant fan base ready to go!

5. How will you do this season?

The bar was set pretty high last season. The league was so competitive and I think it will be again this year! I'm confident with a couple of additions we'll be right up there again this season; in my opinion, we have the best squad in the league so we will see! The club deserves a promotion and I hope we'll be celebrating one in the future.

6. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

Like many here in Sussex I look forward to the Sussex derbies- the trips to Bognor and Lewes are the one’s I look out for.

7. What is your favourite away ground?

My favourite away ground is Lewes, based on the following we get there, a Sussex derby with a big following behind the goals makes for a brilliant atmosphere.

8. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Our biggest rivals, well I'm sure you can already guess! A certain Bognor Regis Town!

The fixtures attract such big crowds including many neutrals. It's great for Sussex. With the likes of Lewes and Horsham also in the same league, Sussex football is booming and it's great for the clubs to get a big crowd in.

9. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

I would recommend any fan to head down to Woodside; with the biggest average attendance in the league by far, one thing I can guarantee you is a great atmosphere.

Work is going on as we speak to improve the ground still further, and the club has done a great job in making the matchday experience for both home and away fans excellent. A short walk from the station with plenty of parking also it's an ideal day out for an away fan.

10. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

My all-time favourite player? It's a tough one I'm going to have to sit on the fence and say David Ajiboye (Now at Sutton) or our number one from last season, Carl Rushworth. Carl's returned to Brighton and he looks destined to go right to the top.

11. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

Worthing, Cray Wanderers, Horsham, Margate, Hornchurch
