Shot of the Season 21-22: Nigel Hakes

By Ian Townsend

We asked our fabulous Pitching In Isthmian Photographers to choose their favourite photograph of the campaign, and tell us why it is important to them.

We’ve had a magnificent Pitching In Isthmian season, one which has been illustrated and enriched by the work of a number of brilliant photographers, who have recorded it for posterity. Nigel gives us a Witham perspective.

• When was the image taken (match, event, etc)?

30th April this year during Witham Town’s relegation play off against Saffron Waldon Town.

• Why is it important to you?

We won, and remained in the Pitching In Isthmian League.

• Where can we find the rest of your work?

On Flickr- here.

• How and why did you begin taking photographs at football matches?

I’ve not been taking match photos for long, and I think that this is the best one I’ve taken. I started taking pictures for the clubs Soccability programme which are uploaded to their WhatsApp group, then was asked to take pictures of the match day mascots which are sent to the parents. I started taking pictures of the matches for my own enjoyment and normally post them on Facebook. I have also got an account on Flickr where my pictures can be viewed.

• What are your hopes for the forthcoming season?

That Witham Town can finish mid table or better, and that my pictures get better!

If you regularly take photographs at our matches but haven't yet submitted yours, there's still time. Send it to Ian at townsendaround@gmail.com
