Swifts go goal crazy at Oakside

By Peter Butcher

HEYBRIDGE collected their first Ryman North victory of the season last night (Tuesday) – and how! They hammered eight unanswered goals past stunned hosts Redbridge, who were actually above them in the table at kick-off time.

Jon Edwards started the rout in the seventh minute and Michael Cheek quickly added another. Luke Callander made it 3-0 in the 28th minute to give the Motormen plenty to think about at half-time.

Callander’s penalty six minutes after the break was followed by a Ben Newson double in the 67th and 80th minutes. Then Callander took his personal haul to four with two in the last three minutes.

Wroxham entertained Ware with both sides looking to bounce back from 5-0 home defeats in the FA Cup on Saturday. Ware took a fourth-minute lead through James Thomas but the Yachtsmen hit back to chalk up a 4-1 victory in an entertaining game.

Matt Daniels equalised on 25 minutes and Josh Carus put Wroxham ahead five minutes before the break. Jamie Speller wrapped it up with two goals in four minutes midway through the second half, the second somewhat poached as he just got a foot to Martin McNeil’s goalbound header before it crossed the line.
