Fingers crossed for crocked Gough

Gough, pictured, was carried off on a stretcher in last Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at Marlow, leaving Hippolyte a worried man after the defender hit the deck in soggy conditions and later left Oak Tree Road in an ambulance.

Seen as another vital cog to a successful Swans campaign, the 21-year-old centre-back signed from Ashford last summer before his first season was dogged by difficulties. Gough has sent his thanks to his many well-wishers and since messaged fans to say: "I’m staying strong, not expecting the worst, I’ll be back in no time… Hoping.’

Hippolyte, who kept the club in the Ryman's top flight last season after replacing Nicky Forster at the helm at Wheatsheaf Park, has had high hopes for the new campaign and last month said they had a real opportunity of pushing for promotion back into the National League South.

The Swans kick off their campaign away to the Metropolitan Police at Imber Court on Saturday.
