Football: A Capital Game

By Ian Townsend

Free outdoor London Exhibition features Cray Wanderers, Corinthian and Casuals- as well as a Barking original

If you happen to be in London on a day when it isn't raining, then you might be interested in taking a trip to Aldgate Square- just by Aldgate Tube Station on the Circle and Metropolitan Lines- to view a free football exhibition, entitled 'Football: A Capital Game.'

Designed to coincide with the European Championship, it features historical photographs, maps and advertising from the collection of the London Metropolitan Archive. Amongst them are features on Cray Wanderers, and the two sides who merged to form Corinthian-Casuals. There is also a mention of former Barking player Jack Leslie, who was denied the chance of becoming the first black England international by racism.

It isn't a large exhibition- you should be able to comfortably see all of it in half an hour- but it is interesting, and well worth a visit if you happen to be in the area. You can read more here.
