Four and fourth for Wands

By Ian Townsend

Whilst Corinthian dig in for one hundred minutes for their first win, and Faversham- under new management- beat the leaders

Both of Tuesday night's Pitching In Isthmian Premier matches ended in four-nil victories, and far be it for Cray Wanderers to break with an established trend. Brightlingsea Regent came to visit Hayes Lane last night, and they headed back to the Essex coast downhearted as Wands found their magic.

Chief magician was Ben Krauhaus. After a goalless first half his first goal came four minutes later, as he converted a cross from Dan Bassett. He added a second with fifteen minutes remaining, again assisted by Bassett, and four minutes later Tom Derry ended the visitors resistance by adding a third, firing home from the edge of the box. Just one minute later Krauhaus claimed the match ball and made it four-nil, and his side climbed to fourth place.

Regent did have their chances, chiefly when Adalberto Pinto hit the bar, and will perhaps feel a little hard done by given they were still in the match with fifteen minutes left, but they remain third from bottom.

In the Pitching In Isthmian South East Corinthian remain at the bottom, but they picked up their first win of the season when defeating local rivals Sevenoaks Town at the Bourne Stadium. We have a full report of that match here, but the Hoops absolutely deserved their three points. Brandon Davey's goal was the difference between the sides, but in truth the highlight of the visitors victory wasn't their goal, it was their fight and determination, particularly illustrated by two late goal line clearances from James Billings and some fine goalkeeping from Daniel Colmer.

Two South East sides at opposite ends of the table met in the Velocity Cup, as leaders Ramsgate welcomed second bottom Faversham Town. The Lilywhites, under new management after the arrival of Simon Austin, took the game to their high-flying hosts and went ahead five minutes before the break through Egid Aydin. Eleven minutes after the restart Nathan Wood made it two, and although Jamie Coyle got a late goal for the Rams the equaliser didn't arrive. The Lilywhites travel to Folkestone Invicta in the next round.
