Four from four for Becks

By Ian Townsend

Beckenham Town have a two point cushion, whilst the Hawks, Rams, Chats and Golds lead the chasing pack. It's our Pitching In Isthmian South East round up.

Beckenham Town have stopped scoring three goals a game, but they picked up their fourth win from four to continue their fine start to the season and hold onto their one hundred percent record. That goal, nine minutes from time, went to Luke Hedges- and it arrived after hosts VCD Athletic had found themselves down to ten men, after Andrew Allassani saw red.

Becks now have a two point cushion at the top, but Whitehawk remain unbeaten in second place after a three-nil win over Three Bridges. The match between the two at the Enclosed Ground last season was remembered for all the wrong reasons, and we suspect that only the home fans will want to remember this one. All three goals came in the first half, Will Miles, Joe Shelley and Joel daly with them, and given the half ended with Noel Leighton seeing red for the visitors there was no way back. Four hundred and twenty two watched this one.

Ramsgate fell behind against Hythe Town, Johan Caney-Bryan with the opening goal on thirty minutes, but roared on by a crowd of six hundred and seventy five the Rams turned the game around after the break. Jerald Aboagye equalised with twenty three minutes left, and five minutes later Ashley Miller got what proved to be the winner. The Rams are third, also on ten points.

Chatham Town made it four wins in a row in all competitions- five out of six in all- with an impressive three-two win at previously unbeaten Sevenoaks Town. Oaks took the lead just before the quarter hour, Yahaya Bamba with his third of the season, and although Jack Evans equalised fifteen minutes later the hosts went in ahead, Ryan Gondoh restoring their lead. After the break the Chats did all the talking, Reece Butler levelling, Josh Ogunseye with the winner fourteen minutes from time- ending the day in fourth.

Littlehampton Town travelled to Mid Sussex and prolonged Burgess Hill Town’s miserable start to the season with a two-nil win. The Hillians didn’t help themselves, a red card for Reggie ward after seventeen minutes giving the Golds a man advantage and a goal advantage, former Hill hero Scott Kirkwood firing home the penalty. The second goal, thirteen minutes from time, was an own goal, as the hosts were the architects of their own downfall. Five hundred and thirty five saw the action, many of them pictured by Chris Neal, as the Golds went fifth and the Hillians stayed bottom.

East Grinstead Town are sixth, another three points coming their way after victory over Haywards Heath Town. Tahjae Anderson put the Wasps ahead on twenty four minutes, but they held their lead for just two minutes before Tom Collins got an equaliser. The winner came six minutes before the break, Matt Daniel scoring his fifth of the season- with Heath down in eighteenth and still looking for their first win.

Our highest South East attendance of the day was at Sheppey United, where one thousand and four watched a stormy match with only one goal. Sittingbourne had six yellow cards and one goal, the Ites four and no goals, and that all important goal went to Donvieve Jones for the Brickies, four minutes after the break.

Cray Valley PM are in eighth place after a narrow win at Corinthian. Dan Bennett got both goals for the Millers in the second half, the second of them seven minutes from time, with a Corinthian goal for Daniel Pepple splitting the two.

Faversham Town got their first victory of the campaign after Isaac Adebayo got the only goal of the game against Ashford United, in the twenty eighth minute. Another one-nil win went the way of Lancing, who also picked up their first three point haul, defeating Chichester City in an A27 derby. Louis Veneti got that goal just after the break, and Ben Pashley’s red card made a comeback difficult for the visitors.
