Geordies and Terrors play out a thriller- late into the night

By Ian Townsend

One hundred and twenty minutes, nine goals, and a finish time of ten past eleven as ten man Terrors reach the Final

We've not had a great deal of football this season, but what we've had during the past week has almost made up for it in terms of excitement- and last night Tooting and Mitcham United reached the Final of the London Senior Cup after an absolute thriller against Hanwell Town at Coles Park.

The match kicked off rather late due to adverse traffic conditions, and when it finally did the Terrors- who were technically the visitors in a match which saw both sides playing away from home due to ongoing pitch work at The Powerday Stadium- took the lead after only three minutes. Twelve minutes later it was two-nil and the Geordies looked down and out- but no, Edon Pruti struck back to make it one-two as we entered the half time break.

Disaster struck for Tooting soon into the second half, as keeper Ross picked up a red card, and the Geordies quickly took advantage to equalise through Joel Jacobs. With twenty minutes to go the turnaround was complete, Ogo Obi scoring from the spot to make it three-two. Could the Terrors respond?

They could. Three minutes into added time the ten men grabbed an equaliser to ensure an extra thirty minutes.

The Geordies were soon ahead once more, Harry Rush making it four-three, but they'd hardly had time to celebrate before the visitors equalised once more, Danny Williams on target. Were we off to penalties? We weren't! With two minutes remaining, Dontai Stewart grabbed what turned out the be the winner, and at ten past eleven the referee blew the final whistle.

Congratulations to Tooting and Mitcham United, who will face AFC Wimbledon in the Final- to be played at Hendon's Silver Jubilee Park- on Monday. Ticket details can be found here- ten pounds for an adult, five for concessions, under twelves free.
