Green light given to end long exile

As the fourth-placed Wands prepare to enter the play-offs after Saturday's final day, fans are already celebrating Bromley Council's decision to give the green light for a new multi-purpose football stadium and community hub at Flamingo Park in Sidcup.

London's oldest club has been without a home of its own since 1972 and delighted officials hailed what they are calling one of the biggest decisions in their 156 year history in a statement on Friday.

Bromley Council’s planning committee voted in favour of the scheme by a comfortable majority this week after a presentation from the club and written support from local MP Bob Neil, the Football Association, Sport England, London Sport and a number of other supporting organisations.

Assuming the criteria on planning conditions are met, the decision will now be referred to the London Mayor and the Secretary of State for ratification.

Cray Wanderers chairman Gary Hillman said: “I want to thank Bromley’s planning committee for appreciating the community benefits and genuine common sense of our scheme to finally provide Cray Wanderers FC with a home, I would equally thank the incredible support from fans and Bromley residents to make our dream a reality.”
