Gorleston move to Great Yarmouth and announce a long-term home

After a season of sharing at Lowestoft Town, Gorleston have announced that they will be making a long-term move to Great Yarmouth, where they will share the Wellesley Recreation Ground with Great Yarmouth Town.

The club, who were forced to leave their previous ground, Emerald Park, after playing there for forty years, released a statement explaining that, with support from Great Yarmouth Borough Council who own the Wellesley Recreation Ground, a 'co-operation Agreement between the club and Great Yarmouth Football Club' has been agreed, and work will be quickly done to ensure the ground meets Step Four standards.

Furthermore:

'Going forward, the plan will be for the Wellesley Recreation Ground to be the home of the football club for the long-term future. Clearly by having the two main clubs in the region playing at one venue and its continued use by Great Yarmouth Athletics Club the ground will provide a solid base for all 3 organisations and allow them to income generate to aid with the running costs of their respected clubs.

The club has secured several grants that we will be using to enhance the site, by providing a better footballing experience but also benefit the local community and groups that use the site. In the coming weeks more news on this will be shared.

Although Great Yarmouth Town FC have been our footballing rivals, they too have been immensely supportive to our transition to the site and our collaborative working with them has seen both clubs’ benefit from several enhancements at the ground ahead of the 2023/24 season.'

Congratulations to the Greens on securing their future. Visiting fans might want to know that the ground features what is reputed to be the oldest football stand in the world!
