Rose, whose promotion-hunters kick off against runners-up Bognor Regis Town on the south coast after suffering the heartache of a 3-1 defeat at East Thurrock United, reckons his side didn't turn up in Essex last May and is demanding much more this time around in the winner-takes-all showdown.
After reaching successive finals and a season that saw then make the the last eight of the FA Trophy, Rose, pictured, said: “We weren’t great. Bognor will be just as difficult so we need to be better. But what I will say is that everything at the club is stronger than it was 12 months ago. The team is better and now we need to go out and prove that and do our brilliant supporters proud.”
Jamie Howell, his opposite number at the Rocks, believes his side are ready to inflict more heartbreak on Hamlet after recovering from the disappointment of missing out on the title and automatic promotion by beating Wingate & Finchley in their semi-final on Thursday night.
In confident mood ahead of the 3pm kick-off, he said: “It was important for us to react on Thursday. Ollie Pearce scored twice for us and we knew we had to put last weekend and losing out on the title behind us. Now we’ve got one more step to go. We are going to have to really perform.”
