Haringey hero heads to Hornchurch

Michael O’Donoghue signs on at Hornchurch

At the end of last week Haringey Borough announced the departure of long-serving left back Michael O’Donoghue, and we wondered where he was going. We didn't have to wonder too long, as last night he was announced as a new signing for Pitching In Isthmian League leaders Hornchurch.

Michael has spent seven years at Coles Park, over two spells. He has already made twenty five appearances this season, and scored two goals, following thirty seven last season and thirty nine during 21-22. He was a critical part of the Borough side that reached the First Round of the FA Cup in 2018-19- who can forget that heartbreaking late defeat against AFC Wimbledon in the pouring rain- and, of course, the previous season was a mainstay of the side that won promotion from our North Division, defeating Canvey Island in the Play Off Final in scorching heat on a Sunday afternoon. Borough have promised a fulsome tribute to his efforts in a yellow shirt in their programme for tonight's Velocity Cup match against Potters Bar Town.

Prior to his time with Borough Michael played youth football with Reading, Leyton Orient and Colchester United. He also had a spell with Concord Rangers between his two periods at Coles Park.
