Highlights: Aveley v Hornchurch/Hornchurch v Aveley

By Ian Townsend

The Urchins Aveley curse continues to haunt them, as they depart the cup after a replay. Both ties here.

We had something of a grudge match at Aveley, where the- these days National League South- Millers welcomed our very own Hornchurch. It isn’t long since the two sides were meeting in our Play Off Final- the third of three meetings last season, each won by Aveley- and there was no doubt that our high-flying Urchins would very much have welcomed some revenge- but the opening goal went to the hosts, just before the half hour, and they were two up by the break. The Urchins hit back on the hour, Liam Nash giving them hope, and that hope was realised when Tommie Hoban levelled in the very last minute.

Watch the highlights below:

Hornchurch must be heartily sick of Aveley. Last season the Urchins lost twice to the Millers in the League, and a third time in the Play Off Final, and in last night’s Cup Replay Aveley did it again, coming from behind to send the tie to Extra Time with five minutes remaining and then scoring the crucial goal in the one hundred and fourteenth minute. It all looked positive for the Urchins when Sam Higgins put them ahead just after the half hour, and it remained positive until Charlie Hughes levelled with five minutes left. On one hundred and fourteen minutes the winner arrived, Matt Rush maintaining the Urchins Aveley curse with a winner.

A home tie with Barnet awaits the victors.
