Horlock hails departed hot-shot

Maldon & Tiptree manager Kevin Horlock has paid tribute to striker Sam Newsom after work commitments forced him to leave the Ryman North's Jammers.

The hot-shot, who racked up 34 goals to become a fans' favourite and earn a place among the club's top five goalscorers since it merged in 2010, has told supporters he will miss Park Drive after being forced to move on next term after their run to the promotion play-offs.

The former Needham Market forward, pictured, whose goals fired the Jammers into the Ryman North play-off final, said: “I am sad to be leaving. However, due to my work commitments I have no choice. I have loved every second of being a Jammer and I would like to pass on my thanks to every member of staff and every supporter for all of their support during my time at Park Drive."

After fans hailed the forward on Twitter as a "top bloke" and said there was "none better" since his signing in 2015, Horlock told the club's website: “I have had the privilege of playing with and managing Sam. He is top bloke and also a top-class player."

He added: "Whoever manages to secure his signature has completed a wonderful piece of business. I would like to wish Sam all the very best for his future and thank him for his hard work and effort whilst playing for me.”
