Horlock vows to build on success

Horlock, who spent the majority of last season managing Chatham Town before being named as assistant manager at Needham Market, told supporters he couldn't wait to get going after Ball guided the Jammers to a seventh placed finish before departing nearly two weeks ago to become the assistant manager at Colchester United.

The 43-year-old, pictured, said: "I am really excited to be appointed as manager of Maldon & Tiptee Football Club, it is a great opportunity for me as Steve Ball has left me a squad that is very, very strong.

"The squad finished the season in in great form and I can't wait to get going and carrying on the good work Steve started, in giving the football club everything to get The Jammers out of the Ryman Division One North."

The appointment of former Northern Ireland international Horlock strengthens the links between the Jammers and their League Two neighbours as he is also the U21 coach at the Colchester Community Stadium.

After setting up and running Needham Market's academy for nearly five years as well as managing their reserves, Horlock stood down at Bloomfields last year before guiding Chatham to a 19th placed finish and safety.

Born in Erith, the UEFA A licensed coach won 34 international caps during a playing career that also took in West Ham, Swindon and Ipswich as well as Doncaster Rovers, Scunthorpe United and Mansfield Town before he signed for the Marketmen back in 2008. At Manchester City he made 206 appearances between 1997 and 2003, scoring 39 goals in the process.

Horlock is now preparing for the next season with Mark Levey as his number two after the club's goalkeeping coach last season stepped up to replace Liam Bailey who left with Ball.
