Hornets and Gate to meet in the Velocity Trophy Final

By Ian Townsend

Horsham and Margate were our victors on an exciting Semi-Final Tuesday

Horsham had managed to score ten goals in their three Velocity Trophy matches on the way to last nights Semi-Final, but we suspect that only in their wildest dreams did they expect to get another five against Folkestone Invicta. Perhaps that proves that even the wildest dreams can come true- and in the case of Invicta, worst nightmares can do the same, as our promotion chasers have now conceded nine goals in four days.

The Hornets, who disposed of Haywards Heath Town, Corinthian-Casuals and Hythe Town to reach this stage, took twenty minutes to score their first goal- Lee Harding opening the scoring on twenty minutes. Within the next twenty five minutes they'd added three more- Jack Brivio, Will Miles and Tom Kavanagh heaping misery on Neil Cugley's men whilst sending the Lardy Army into raptures.

After the break, Eddie Dsane got number five on fifty one minutes, at which point either Invicta woke up or the Hornets decided to save their sting for the Final.

Invicta are back in Horsham again next Tuesday, in the Pitching In Isthmian League, so the chance for revenge isn't far away.

Our second Semi-Final also had five goals, but was far less one-sided. All five of them came within a thirteen minute spell midway through the second half, and supporters who had watched through an hour without a goal must have wondered what had just happened! The visitors, Margate, went ahead on sixty one minutes, Ben Greenhalgh converting a spot kick, but within five minutes Haringey Borough were level, Adam Morgan with the equaliser. Sam Blackman restored the away lead only for Scott Mitchell to equalise almost immediately, then up the other end we went and Bernas Vaivada got the winner. Borough must be sick of the sight of Greenhalgh and Vaivada, as they both scored when the two sides met in the league on Saturday, too.

The Final is at Parkside, Aveley, on Wednesday 13th April.
