Hornets give Margate the Blues

By Ian Townsend

Horsham picked up the Velocity Trophy last night- and they did so in style. Watch the highlights now.

Horsham have had a fabulous season in cup competitions, and last night they rounded off their knockout season by thrashing Margate in the final of the Velocity Trophy.

In front of more than eight hundred fans at Aveley’s Parkside Stadium, the Hornets added the Blues to a list of cup victims which already included Haywards Heath Town, Kingstonian, Eastbourne Borough, Woking and Folkestone Invicta. The travelling Horsham fans watched their side score four goals in forty minutes, bisecting both halves, whilst the travelling Margate fans may have enjoyed the Parkside bar but won’t have enjoyed much else.

Lee Harding got the party started in the twenty third minute, firing left footed into the bottom corner, and ten minutes later Jack Brivio joined him on the scoresheet, walloping home from a corner. Brivio had another four minutes after the restart, the Hornets skipper heading home for his eighth goal of the campaign, and fourth in this competition. Soon after the hour mark Chaelie Hester-Cook ensured the fans from Kent would have better memories of their run to the final than of the final itself, getting goal number four and confirming that there was no chance of a comeback.

Congratulations to the Hornets, thanks to our fabulous sponsors, Velocity Sports, and commiserations to Margate. Watch all the best bits below.
