Hornets, Urchins and Scholars each hope to go top

By Ian Townsend

We've an almost full programme of Pitching In Premier fixtures tonight, and three clubs fighting to replace Aveley at the top of the table

Leaders Aveley may find themselves displaced at the top after their match at Lewes was postponed due to the Rooks FA Cup Replay- and three of the sides below them could find themselves at the summit this evening.

Second place Horsham had the chance to go top at the weekend, but instead fell to defeat at Haringey Borough. The Hornets are in North London again, this time to face Wingate & Finchley, the Blues still looking for their first League victory after drawing four of their six matches and losing the other two. The last six meetings between the two clubs have seen three wins each and no draws, but the last time they met at the Maurice Rebak Stadium the Blues won three-nil, Dylan Kearney and Isaac Tshipamba-Mulowayi (2) with the goals.

Hornchurch, in third, will hit the summit should they win and the Hornets fail to take three points. The Urchins have been in superb form of late, and travel to Herne Bay on the back of four consecutive wins in all competitions, matches which have seen them rattle in thirteen goals. Sam Higgins has seven for the season, Liam Nash has four. Bay defeated Ashford United in the Cup on Sunday, but have only one win in the league- although they can’t have been helped by having to play all of their home matches at Ramsgate whilst waiting for their new pitch to be completed. It is now ready, so today, they are actually at home!

Potters Bar Town have already topped the table this season, and could be back there this evening, but they will have to defeat Brightlingsea Regent and hope that Horsham and Hornchurch both lose. The Scholars play host to the Essex side, and manager Sammy Moore will be looking for a reaction after his side were beaten by Essex Senior League Romford at the weekend. Regent have won three of their last four matches- two of them in the cup- and will hope their hammering against Enfield Town in their last league match was just an aberration. The Schloars won the last meeting between the two, in March, goals from Tyler Christian-Law and Corey Parchment enough despite Aaron Blair pulling a goal back for Regent.

Bishop’s Stortford, who got back to winning ways against leaders Aveley last time out, could climb as high as second if they can defeat Bowers & Pitsea. The visitors have drawn their last three league matches. The sides met three times last season, each taking one win.

Another side who will hope to climb back into the top five are Folkestone Invicta, who are on the road to Corinthian-Casuals. Invicta saw a six match unbeaten run in all competitions fall by the wayside when falling to defeat against Cray Wanderers last Tuesday night, but quickly put that behind them to win three-nil in the Cup on Saturday. Casuals are having a terrible time, without a win since the opening day, and lost five-nil at Hornchurch on Saturday. POSTPONED- DAMAGE TO CASUALS CLUBHOUSE/CHANGING ROOMS CAUSED BY A FALLING TREE.

Haringey Borough welcome Billericay Town. The Blues start the night at the bottom of the table but will be feeling more confident after two cup wins and a draw from their last three; whilst Borough are five games unbeaten in the league, with two wins and three draws making up that list. They defeated Horsham at the weekend.

Enfield Town and Canvey Island both start the day with eight points, and meet at Donkey Lane. The Towners will be delighted to have a chance at revenge, after the Gulls walloped five goals past them in the FA Cup on September 3rd- but they quickly got that out of their system when defeating Brightlingsea Regent four-nil on Saturday. The Gulls only have one defeat from their last five matches- but it was in the FA Cup on Saturday, St Ives Town winning three-nil.

In the Emirates FA Cup, Three Bridges host Lewes in a replay, after the two drew one-one at the Dripping Pan on Saturday.
